FastLane at CIPS 2026
Advancing SiC Power Electronics at CIPS 2026
The International Conference on Integrated Power Electronics Systems (CIPS) took place on March 10–12 in Dresden, Germany, bringing together leading experts in the field. As part of the FastLane project, partner Mauro Emilio Keck from Fraunhofer IISB presented work on TCAD simulations for the Use-Case 2.2 demonstrator “Circuit Breaker”, titled: “๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ต๐ถ๐ฅ๐บ ๐ฐ๐ฏ ๐๐ข๐ณ๐ข๐ญ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ญ ๐๐ช๐ ๐๐ธ๐ฐ-๐๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฆ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ฉ๐ช๐ฑ๐ด ๐๐ฏ๐ต๐ฆ๐จ๐ณ๐ข๐ต๐ฆ๐ฅ ๐ช๐ฏ๐ต๐ฐ ๐ข 900 ๐ ๐๐ฐ๐ธ๐ฆ๐ณ ๐๐ฐ๐ฅ๐ถ๐ญ๐ฆ.”

Advancing Efficient SiC Power Modules at EBL 2026
On February 24 - 25, 2026, 130 experts from research and industry gathered in Fellbach for the 13th DVS/GMM Conference under the theme “๐๐ฆ๐ค๐ถ๐ณ๐ช๐ฏ๐จ ๐๐ถ๐ณ๐ฐ๐ฑ๐ฆ๐ข๐ฏ ๐๐ข๐ญ๐ถ๐ฆ ๐๐ฉ๐ข๐ช๐ฏ๐ด.” The discussions emphasized the importance of integrating all stages of the value chain to ensure Europe’s long - term competitiveness. Presentation of the projects' vision and contributions
EFECS 2025, the leading European Forum for Electronic Components and Systems, brought together key players committed to shaping the future of the Electronic Components and Systems sector. The event opened with remarks from Silvio Schembri, Malta’s Minister for the Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects, and Prime Minister Robert Abela, who reaffirmed Malta’s commitment to fostering high-value, technology-driven initiatives. FastLane was proudly showcased by our Coordinator, Dirk Brauer, highlighting the project’s vision and contributions to Europe’s innovation landscape.

Panel on the future of e-mobility
The FastLane Project and our work to build a stronger European semiconductor ecosystem for enhanced supply security were showcased by our Coordinator, Dirk Brauer, during a panel on the future of e-mobility. Driving Intl. Research Collab. at STU
Horizon Europe and the research community
On November 27, 2025, the Centre for European Projects (CEP) at STU hosted a landmark event dedicated to the Horizon Europe programme - the first of its kind at STU. The session aimed to bring Horizon Europe closer to the research community, encourage active participation in upcoming calls, and support the development of competitive grant proposals. With a full auditorium, the event clearly demonstrated the growing interest of STU researchers in international collaboration and funding opportunities. The FastLane project was also featured at the event, with project partner Slovenská technická univerzita v Bratislave presenting it through a dedicated roll-up display, raising awareness of its objectives and ongoing activities among the research community.

Talk and poster presentation at the SciX2025 conference (Oct. 5-10, Covington, KY/US)
Kudos to our partner Olga Lanaridi from Technische Universität Wien TUV) for showcasing FastLane EU results
Talk: Analysis of nanoparticle composition using LA-ICP-MS— a practical workflow using <1 mg samples dispersed in PVP and spin-coated on Si wafers, with matrix-matched standards. After optimizing laser-ablation and ICP-MS parameters, the method achieved RSD <2% for standards and 3–8% for nanoparticle samples (depending on NP type).
Poster: Two-phase transport of sulfur in polymeric matrices during LA-ICP-MS analysis — real-time observation of sulfur moving in particulate and gaseous phases, and how laser fluence influences the intensity of each phase.

The FastLane EU partner SOITEC made a powerful impact at the 22nd International Conference on Silicon Carbide and Related Materials, held from 14th to 19th September in Busan, Korea.
At this prestigious event, SOITEC presented cutting-edge developments in SmartSiC materials, showcasing breakthrough advances in bipolar degradation benefits and post-epitaxy defectivity improvements.Here’s a quick recap of the highlights:

First Review Meeting for FastLane
Successful Review in Brussels, Belgium
On July 3rd 2025, the first FastLane Project Review Meeting took place at the Chips JU in Brussels. The meeting was an excellent opportunity to present the achievements of the past year.
We are delighted that the reviewers recognized both the strong collaboration and the high work quality delivered so far. Dirk Brauer, our coordinator, received special recognition for outstanding coordination. Life Cycle Assessment in the project was pointed out as one of the highlights. Thanks to all the involved partners and presenters for their dedication and commitment.
We are looking forward to taking the FastLane project to the next level.
European Summer School on Magnetism
FastLane at the European Summer School on Magnetism 2025!

๐FastLane partner Ilona Rohrmann from Infineon Technologies AG attended the European School on Magnetism (ESM) 2025, held in Liège, Belgium from 30 June to 11 July 2025.
She proudly presented the poster titled:

The 2025 edition of ESM aimed to bridge fundamental and functional phenomena, offering a critical perspective on the role of magnetism, magnetic materials, and multiferroics in the development of energy-efficient technologies — addressing some of today’s most pressing societal challenges.

FastLane at the AOFKA2025
KAI presented novel analysis approach 2025!

Maximilian Podsednik from KAI, proudly represented the FastLane EU project at the Applied Surface and Solid State Analysis (AOFKA2025) conference, held from June 30 to July 2, 2025, in Kaiserslautern, Germany.
AOFKA is a leading DACH conference at the forefront of applied surface and solid-state analysis. FastLane results were presented on LA-ICP-QMS analysis using short transient signals for dopant imaging in SiC.

TUC FastLane Progress Presentation
Exciting news at the ISPSD 2025 in Japan
Mohamed Alaluss from TUC proudly presented the latest results at the 37th International Symposium on Power Semiconductor Devices and ICs in Kumamoto, Japan, highlighting advancements in SmartSiC based device technology.
The focus was on the reverse recovery behaviour of SiC MOSFETs on SmartSiC substrates - benchmarked against traditional monocrystalline devices.
๐ ๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐ข๐ง๐๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ฌ:
- Lower reverse recovery charge, especially under high temperatures and current densities
- Reduced carrier lifetime
- Electro-thermal simulations reveal a lower carrier density, confirming experimental insights
These results are directly tied to ongoing research within the FastLane project and pave the way for more efficient and robust power semiconductor devices, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in wide-bandgap technology.

At PCIM Europe 2025 (May 6–8, Nuremberg, Germany), the FastLane partner SOITEC hosted a dedicated booth highlighting FastLane project demonstrators:

- Zadient Technologies powder
In addition, the poster titled “SmartSiCTM 150 & 200mm Engineered Substrate: Addressing Bipolar Degradation of SiC MOSFETs Body Diode” was presented. These advances highlight the ecosystem’s progress in SiC materials and devices—driving efficiency and performance for next-gen power electronics.

Two productive days took place at the FastLane Project meeting in Grenoble, France, in April 2025 with dynamic sessions and collaborative energy all around!
Highlights of the two days were:
- Work package leaders shared progress updates, key achievements and upcoming goals
- Overview of use cases and material requirements
- Technical work shops for further details in the work packages and across value streams which included deep technical discussion
- a site visit at CEA and Soitec where we were able to learn about the pioneering work and cutting edge research carried out at both sides
Thanks to CEA and Soitec for hosting the consortium and making the this such a success! We are now ready for the next steps in the FastLane journey.

Productive Day at our 6 month project meeting
The FastLane EU team gathered to review the project's 6-month progress and set the course for future phases. The team covered a range of technical milestones, from defining use cases to developments in material, devices, and packaging solutions, with each team presenting advancements that pave the way for exciting future work. An in-depth technical session explored the LCA methodology, along with discussions around holistic value streams and use cases, sparking valuable insights into sustainability and long-term impact. Excited to see how these efforts will shape the next stages of our project!
FastLane @ IPCEI ME/CT General Assembly
FastLane recognized as Role Model!
The project was officially presented at the IPCEI ME/CT General Assembly in Paris on November 28th.
Key highlights are the perfect alignment of the project scope with the ICPEI/ME-CT objectives of the ACT workstream. Additionally the IPCEI/ME-CT facilitation group highlighted FastLane as a role model for advancing innovation in power electronics and SiC technologies to leaders of IPCEI projects across Europe.
Dirk Brauer, our dedicated coordinator, delivered a compelling speech about the progress of the Valeo IPCEI Project, emphasizing the perfect synergy between FastLane and IPCEI. FastLane @ IPCEI ME/CT Semiconductor Rendez-Vous
FastLane Presentation at European Semiconductor Rendez-Vous!
Valeo and FastLane presented at the IPCEI ME/CT Semiconductor Rendez-Vous in Prague, Czech Republic, among more than 10 European highly innovative players sharing their technologcial knowledge on power electronics from October 8th to 10th 2024.
The FastLane funded project in France is complementing the IPCEI initiative strongly.
A presentation on the main focus of FastLane - the technological breakthrough of developing an automotive 800V Power Train System SiC - was given by Dirk Brauer, Valeo, FastLane coordinator. 200 people attended the different speeces, panel discussions and exhibitions at the conference center close to the Technological University of Prague.

AMX Automatrix srl at the IEMT 2024 in Penang, Malaysia
We’re thrilled to announce that the FastLane EU project was featured by Alessio Greci of AMX Automatrix srl at the IEMT 2024 conference in Penang, Malaysia, held from October 16-18. Through the FastLane project, AMX Automatrix brings its advanced expertise in pressure sintering to the forefront, contributing to key process activities in the AMX Automatrix Labs. During his presentation, Alessio Greci highlighted the role of pressure sintering as today’s leading bonding solution for high-power Si and SiC applications, emphasizing its impressive advantages:
- High Thermal Conductivity: ~300 W/mโK
- Low Electrical Resistivity: ~2 µΩcm
- Extended Interconnect Life: Up to 100x longer than standard soldered interconnects.

Exciting News from SciX 2024!
FastLane at SciX Conference in Raleigh, NC, USA,
TWe are proud to share that our partner, Maximilian Podsednik from KAI, recently presented the FastLane project and its latest research at SciX Conference 2024, a leading international conference in analytical chemistry and allied sciences, held in Raleigh, NC, USA. In addition, MAximilian showcased innovative analytical techniques developed in collaboration with the Technical University Vienna through a poster titled "Fast and Large-Scale Imaging in Laser-Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy Experiments". These contributions highlighted advanced imaging techniques for dopants in SiC, offering significant progress in the field. SciX 2024 provided not only an excellent platform to represent our work but also a unique opportunity to explore the latest innovations and engage in vibrant scientific exchanges with the global analytical science community.

ESC Summer School
with FastLane Participation
Ecxiting Collaboration in European Electronics!
We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of the second edition of the ECS Summer programme, a collaborative initiative by AENEAS, EPoSS, INSIDE, and the European Chips Skills Academy (ECSA). This year's theme "Fascinating Electronics for a Cool World" brought together 40 enthusiastic students from across Europe to explore the cutting edge world of microelectronics.
Held ad the University of Bologna, Bertinoro, Italy, from August 18-23, 2024, the event aimed to inspire and attract new talents to the European Electronics Components and Systems (ECS) community.
A special highlight was the insightful session by Moritz Schlagmann (IFAG). He discussed holistic development approaches and introduced the FastLane project, showcasing the European SiC value chain's cooperative efforts for a greener and more sustainable future. Furthermore, Suzanne Lesecq (CEA) attended the summer school and students had a chance to learn more about the different aspects of FastLane.

Kickoff Meeting in Paris
The Chips JU funded project FastLane had a successful kickoff meeting in June 2024 with a participation of about 60 project members as well as the project officer Simona Rucareanu. All members had a chance to connect and first technical workshops could be hold.
